It’s been around three weeks since I arrived in Salt Lake City. I’m here to serve an 18 month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My assignment is the Prison Ministry.. where we help inmates and their families. More about that to come. I know sooooo little right now. Really.
Here’s the name tag I wear whenever I leave my apartment. I’m thrilled to wear it, but I have so much to learn.
This is what I see approaching the office where I work everyday. The Salt Lake Temple is under renovation and repair, but it’s beautiful no matter what.
It would be really easy sometimes to overthink this.. to dwell on how new and different my life is.. and subsequently (probably) wallow in what is not rather than what is. But how can I do that? How can I ignore the goodness I’ve experienced so far? The new people I’ve met, the help, the love, the light? Well.. I can’t. So.. it’s onward for me.
Particular gratefuls this week are for a CLOUDBURST (apparently this happens here) and the sudden rain pounding on my bedroom window.. loved it. Also, Thursday is Mexican food day in the cafeteria at the Church Office Building (COB).. and grateful for Elders and Sisters who instruct me on the finer points of *how* to be a missionary.. the stuff beyond just wearing the badge.
I am grateful.. and have so much to learn..
